57 launches iPoems & the Video Jukebox

57 is pleased to announce exciting new developments in its online programme - in October 2006 we launch a new website - redesigned as a dynamic electronic catalogue - carrying new audio-visual, audio & interactive content -including iPoems - www.ipoems.org.uk - & the launch of the worlds’ first Poetry Video-Jukebox -www.poetryvideojukebox.com

iPoems will present new recordings in both streaming & downloadable MP3 format – alongside 57s original & popular back-catalogue – starting with 1001 MP3s from over 50 poets - & similarly the Poetry Video-Jukebox will feature newly produced & special arkive poetry-films

iPoems features content exclusive to 57 – including John Hegley, Jean ‘Binta’ Breeze, Benjamin Zephaniah, Adrian Mitchell, Zena Edwards & Michael Rosen, new & rare recordings by, for example, Christopher Logue, Liz Lochhead & Kamau Brathwaite - who premiers a sequence of entirely new recordings entitled PRAISE POEMS - plus previously unheard works from a host of artists as well as extant material only available to 57

The launch of the Video-Jukebox will be marked with 5 x new poem-films featuring:

Ian McMillan, Jean ‘Binta’ Breeze, Jane Draycott, Tom Leonard, & Peter Finch - all shot with the author on location – in Barnsley, Brixton, Didcot, Glasgow & Cardiff – gorgeous productions acknowledging that a poem is often an invocation of place & bears within it wonderful filmic potentials - among lots of other exclusive stuff!

Plus 57 announces a wealth of new content for the already hugely successful Poetry Jukebox - www.poetryjukebox.com - which remains FREE - & newly commissioned articles – developing the websites’ value as an educational resource – including specially commissioned teacher & student support materials (in the first instance for A Level & above). Further more we’re developing the electronic art content of the site in general, including the production of ‘flash-poems’ (a special collaboration with the poet & animator – Peter Howard) - & the creation of down-loadable poetry ring-tones, poetry wall-paper & poetry screen-savers

The website promises to be one of the most innovative & significant public spaces for poetry yet seen
